Responsible tour operator, Green Discovery Laos, has launched the Treetop Explorer, a thrilling jungle adventure in southern Champasak Province’s Pakxong District, about an hour from Pakse.
You’ll fly along zip lines through the forest, abseil down waterfalls, cross raging rapids on wooden plank bridges, explore an evergreen canopy on walkways, and overnight in a tree house cottage in and around the Bolaven Plateau.

“Laos’ accessible remoteness presents a deceptively delicious destination,” is how PATA Compass, the official magazine of the Pacific Asia Travel Association, described the country in its November/December 2010 feature story “Simply Beautiful: as an eco-tourism hotspot, Laos is blossoming”.
Simply Beautiful focuses on the ease of access to numerous responsible tourism attractions from Champasak and Savannakhet Provinces in the south to Luang Prabang, Luang Namtha, and Bokeo Provinces in the northwest.
Highlights also include simple trips along the Tea Caravan Trail, Northern Heritage Route and Savannakhet Historic Trail, and natural, cultural and historical sites that can be easily explored in one day by bicycle, motorbike, or local transport.

This year’s three-day That Ing Hang Festival, held to pay respect to Buddha and those who built the ancient stupa in Savannakhet Province, will culminate on 21 December 2010. During the celebration, people place mark beng (small banana-leaf towers with flowers) around it and nuns bless them. Forest products, traditional foods, and local handicrafts are sold at a huge trade fair that is held during the festival.
