Laos “Hidden Cave City” Goes Online:

The LNTA and a handful of sponsors have launched visit-viengxay to provide information on Viengxay Cave City, “The Birthplace of Laos”. From 1964 to 1973, the Pathet Lao liberation movement and more than 20,000 people lived in a “Hidden Cave City” within the limestone peaks around Viengxay in northeastern Houaphanh Province to survive daily bombing raids.

This site tells the history of the “Hidden Cave City” through interviews with local people, and guides visitors wishing to visit Viengxay and Houaphanh. Visitors can find out how to access Viengxay from Laos and nearby Vietnam, download maps and a leaflet to plan their journey, and discover what to see and do in Houaphanh.

Visit the site at visit-viengxay.

Nam Nern Night Safari:

Looking to spot rare wildlife while in Laos? The Nam Et-Phou Louey National Protected Area and Ban Son Koua villagers are now offering a two-day program with an evening boat ride along the Nam Nern River to catch a glimpse of animal nightlife. Commonly seen creatures include Sambar deer, otters, barking deer, civets, slow loris, porcupine and owls. The local ethnic Khmer guides also take visitors on a village tour, wildlife tracking at the Boung Man salt lick, and bird watching outings.
