New Destination: Attapeu Province

Attapeu Province is located in the southeastern corner of Laos and has a range of unique self-guided and guided treks to waterfalls, national protected areas and ethnic villages. The area offers off-the-beaten track travel to many natural and cultural attractions.

Now Open! Kingfisher Ecolodge

The Kingfisher Ecolodge in Champasak Province is now open. This lodge offers high standard bungalows with excellent views of the surrounding wetlands in Xe Pian National Protected Area. Activities that can be arranged include elephant rides to Phou Asa Temple, nature walks around the wetlands and overnight treks to Ban Ta Ong. The lodge is located just 1 km from Kiet Ngong Village. Elephant Project in Luang Prabang

Tiger Trail in Luang Prabang has set up the Elephant Park Project which allows you to learn about and get close to elephants, then explore the surrounding forest on nature trails and bike paths, or by boat, raft or kayak. Also available are trips to the magnificent Tad Se waterfall and homestays in local villages.

Rainy Season Activity: River Travel in Luang Namtha

Flowing from its source in Luang Namtha Province’s northern hills the Nam Tha River is one of the main tributaries of the Mekong. Along its journey south it is joined by the Nam Ha River, which rises from the forests of the Nam Ha National Protected Area. Traveling by river is one of the best ways to visit local people as well as spot wildlife. For adventuresome travelers, try a 2-day journey down the Namtha River to the Mekong, and then on to either Ban Houi Xay in Bokeo Province or Luang Prabang.
