Luang Prabang a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its ancient Buddhist temples and cultural heritage is one of Laos ' most popular tourist destinations. Due to a growing market demand for tours to rural areas around Luang Prabang Province , MTDP is developing three walking tours in cooperation with local villagers and tour companies. These tours visit Hmong, Khamu and lowland Lao villages and pass through the province's rustic, mountainous countryside. |
With over twenty distinct ethnic groups, Luang Namtha Province is best known for its rich ethnic diversity. It is also known for the Nam Ha National Protected Area, home to tigers, Black-cheeked Gibbon, hundreds of bird species, and a range of unique forest products. MTDP is developing three new tours to Akha, Lanten, Hmong and Khamu ethnic villages located in and around the Nam Ha Protected Area. |
Champassak Province has a range of tourism attractions that include the Mekong Four Thousand Islands, Vat Phou UNESCO World Heritage, Xe Pian National Protected Area, and many impressive waterfalls. MTDP is working with communities located at some of these major sites to develop community-based alternatives to the typical tourism routes. Three products being developed in Champassak are: homestay and walking tours inside the Vat Phou Consevation Area; trekking inside the Xe Pian Protected Area; and guided exploration of Pu Kong Mountain and Don Ko Island . |
