The oldest forest reserve in the country (officially declared as such in 1958). An 800 hectares forested patch about 20 km north of Vientiane . Good for bird watching, particularly during the migratory phase, insects (butterflies, bugs, walking sticks etc.). For a nice walk along a marked nature trail. A little guiding booklet is available. The forest, though heavily degraded and remaining wildlife through high hunting pressure minimized, is beautiful and worth for a day trip.

Shortly before reaching the reserve (about 2 km after the junction), a road to the right leads to fish ponds with nicely located small fish restaurants. There is also a  market before the reserve.

How to go there:

Same road (No. 10, good road) as to go to Ban Sivilay. Can be reached even with rented Tuk-Tuk from Vientiane . The park entrance is about 8 km after the junction where Rd. 13 turns sharp to the right at km 12. The forest is on the right side directly along the road. A green sign board is at the entrance, but the road appears to be overgrown.
